Care Worker of the Month – May 2022

It is the last Friday of the month, which means it’s time to announce our Care Worker of the Month Award winner!

The incredible stories of those nominated; heart-breaking and heart-warming in equal measure, has made it exceptionally difficult to choose a winner. A reflection on the hard work and dedication of our incredible caring community.

So this month we’ve decided to allocate two ‘Runner Up’ places for May, alongside our winner. Both Runners Up received a £50 M&S voucher and a Care Worker Award certificate. These went to Carol Taggert – a Micare Community Support Worker from Rutland County Council and Elaine Jones – a Carer – who was nominated by Ann Holt from Salvere Support. Many, many congratulations to Carol and Elaine. Both truly deserved. We will be sharing Carol and Elaine’s stories over the next week so look out for these!

Care Worker of the Month - May 2022 - Stephen DelaneyOur winner for May is Stephen Delaney – a project worker – who was nominated by Social Care and Housing Manager, Jenna Mooney from MVN associates.

Jenna wrote:

“I would like to nominate one of my Project workers Stephen Delaney for care worker of the month.

Stephen has worked for our company for over 15 years with not one cancellation or sick call in all those years. He embodies everything that is required to be a project worker, he is caring, compassionate, patient, reliable, highly skilled and knowledgeable in his field.

He has gone above and beyond to support homelessness and addictions services for years, including walking 15 miles to get to services in the snow at Christmas when public transport has been cancelled to staying on shift to help cover when services have reached their limit.

He has been commended by services for his quick thinking in tricky situations and his ability to handle difficult and challenging situations professionally with the best possible outcome for service users.

He is a kind soul also and goes out of his way to help ourselves as an agency and the services he works at. He is always keen to update his skills to be able to assist further at the services he attends. He is requested to cover shifts at so many services due to his outstanding commitment to providing support to those battling with homelessness and addictions.  We feel very privileged to have Stephen on our books. He is a very selfless and hard working man.

I have nominated Stephen as I feel agency workers often do not get the recognition they deserve, particularly throughout the pandemic when they were needed more than ever – missing out on the government bonus.

Stephen absolutely deserves to be nominated and, in my opinion, to win care worker of the month. I cannot imagine how many people he has helped over the years . I feel he is a credit to us and to the Scottish social care sector and I cannot speak highly enough about him.

Thank you for your time and I will keep my fingers crossed for such a lovely man to win.”

Many congratulations Stephen, we are full of admiration for the commitment you demonstrate going above and beyond for those in your care. On behalf of us, your colleagues and those you care for, Thank You.

If YOU know our next Care Worker of the Month, please do email us at info@socialcare.tv. And if you entered in May but did not win, please feel free to enter again as many times as you wish.

In our eyes, you are all winners and we feel honoured to be a part of this very special, caring community.

Have a wonderful weekend.
